DJ RENA

DJ RENA (2017 DMC WORLD CHAMPION / 2019 IDA WORLD CHAMPION)
DJ RENA is the current pound-for-pound no.1 battle DJ in the world…and he still goes to junior high school. He started taking dance lessons at the tender age of 3 and after revealing a raw talent within a couple years, he entered his first hip-hop dance battle and continued to battle until the age of 8, when he was invited to perform a showcase and saw a turntablist showcase for the first time, at which point the young RENA was hooked and packed up his dancing shoes for a pair of turntables. From the start, he set his goal to enter the Japan Finals of the world’s biggest DJ competition, the DMC Championships, while still at elementary school and after years of practicing and honing his skills, in 2016 he won the Tokai East Japan Eliminations establishing his place in the Finals. Battling amongst the finest and fiercest turntablists in Japan, he entered both the Singles and Battle categories and left an indelible mark through his performance on the Japan Finals stage. The following year, the now junior high school student RENA further upped his skills and stage performance levels to the extent of being crowned the hands down DMC Japan Champion in the Singles category. Entering the DMC World Finals in London representing Japan a month later was the dream platform for DJ RENA and once there, he combined all the skills he had accumulated over the years into a 6-minute set that captured the hearts and minds of both the judges and the crowd, securing him the coveted top spot of World DMC Champion. Winning the World Championships at the age of 12 was a feat that broke the 20 year-long record set by A-Trak, now an established top artist within the global dance music scene, for youngest world champion (by 3 years) and this catapulted him to become one of the most talked about DJs across the world. Upon returning to Japan his new fame led to countless appearances on terrestrial TV programs as well as performances in global brand TV commercials such as Pepsi and others. In 2018 he teamed up with best friend and rival New Zealand DJ K-Swizz, who himself is only 1 year older and has numerous world battle titles under his belt, to create the Super Beast DJs. They entered the Show category in the IDA World Championships in the same year and wowed judges and audiences to take the IDA World Championship crown. As the forefront of a new generation of DJs and a world top level turntablist, the story of the prodigy that is DJ RENA is only beginning..
