HISASHI AOCHI

He first started DJing and performing at live Sets in 2009.

In 2014, he made his debut with Osaka-based techno label Torque. Among other achievements, Torque is notable for releasing tracks by legendary UK artists Ben Sims and Dave Clarke, as well as for providing support during Japanese tours by artists such as Ben Klock, Alan Fitzpatrick, and Truncate, who have headlined at prominent festivals and clubs around the world.

Starting in 2017, he worked for four years as a resident DJ for the regular party seQuence at CLUB METRO in his native Kyoto, and spotlighted a wide range of dance music, including genres outside of techno. The party was a success, despite initially being held on weekdays, and gradually grew into a popular weekend event.

In late 2019, he formed the three-person collective soO with sintaro fujita, a promoter and co-performer at seQuence, and CeeeSTee, who also produces for CLUB METRO. Together with the other members, he performed on and released the split EP session 00, and despite the difficult situation brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, celebrated the EP's release with a global virtual launch party.

In 2020, he won the Grand Prix at the SPECTRA label competition run by Hiroyuki Arakawa, a producer who has received praise from Frank Muller, Takkyu Ishino, and KEN ISHII. He also appeared as a special guest at CIRCUS TOKYO and was featured extensively by Japanese media outlets such as BARKS, as well as in the Spain-based Mosssaic Magazine.

Subsequently, his track won first prize out of a pool of some 300 submissions to the Drunken Kong remix contest, which was held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Tronic, a label run by the legendary Christian Smith, who has worked at the forefront of the Nordic music scene alongside Adam Beyer. His first international release was also featured in Beatport's Week End Pick 100 and Electronica Top 100.

He has been featured alongside Charlotte de Witte, Kölsch, and Joseph Capriati in Juno Records' Recommends TECHNO, and his work has been covered in Mixmag Japan, J-Wave's TOKYO MAAD SPIN, block.fm, and GH Streaming.

He was praised by Christian Smith as a performer of a "radically new type" during an exclusive DJ set on Tronic Radio. As a composer and sound engineer, his work has featured in both movies and commercials. He also works as an editor specializing in dance music, and has written and provided editorial supervision for numerous articles.
