Ponies

Ponies formed in Tokyo in 2016 by Keisuke Hamamoto and Natsuki Matsuoka. The two focused on making lo-fi bedroom recordings until Wataru Suzuki and Hibiki Ichiwa joined the band, allowing them to approach their sound in a more improvised manner. Focusing on merging lo-fi and psych-influenced sounds, Ponies challenge the difficult task of portraying a distinct image of something hazy.

After making a couple of 4-track cassette recordings at Hamamoto’s home studio, they recorded a 3 song EP, Trotting Home in the autumn of 2020. Recorded with emphasis on improvisation and experimentation, the songs cover many grounds, but never deviate from their oddball sensibilities.
