Umisaya

Formed in 2023, Umisaya—a “band that plays the sea” from Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture—is a three-piece band consisting of Funawatari Kotaro(Gt., Vo.), Mitsu-chi (Ba.), and Satoshi (Dr.).

Their musical style combines a consistent focus on incorporating sea-related longing into their lyrics with the freedom to move between various genres such as Midwest emo, post-rock, hardcore, and math rock.

Recent highlights include being selected as a finalist at the ARABAKI ROCK FEST. 2025 Future Summit. They have performed on Japan tours for acts like Dochi Sadega (PEE WEE GASKINS) and Rest Ashore, as well as on tours organized by te', and have recently been appearing frequently at events centered around melo-core, not limited to the domestic and international indie emo scenes. They have earned a reputation for their performances across a diverse range of venues.

While performing live shows nationwide, they hold an annual self-organized concert titled “Umi ni Matsuraru” (Related to the Sea) on Marine Day in their home base of Sendai. In the past, they invited bands such as Yukiguni, Hitohira, Togar, and Sidenerds to Sendai for the first time, and the shows have consistently sold out.

This year, they plan to release their second album and hold a tour across the six prefectures of the Tohoku region. Alongside their nationwide live activities, they aim to further energize the rock scene in the Tohoku region.
