Koki Sakakihara

He wanna be a good tennis player.
An artist working across music, theater, film, and performance.
He holds an MFA from the Global Art Practice (GAP) program at Tokyo University of the Arts and a BMus in Computer Music from Kunitachi College of Music.
He began his music career in 2018. Drawing on his own experiences and memories through an autofictional approach, he creates works that move across film, physical expression, and performing arts, with pop music at their core.
In 2020, he was selected as a finalist for Nippon Broadcasting System’s “Yurakucho Uta Tsukuri Keikaku” and received the Mitsubishi Estate “MicroSTARs.Dev Award.”
In 2024, he was selected as an 8th-term KUMA Foundation scholar. In 2025, his project was awarded a Startup Grant from Arts Council Tokyo.
In January 2026, he presented the 120-minute solo tennis musical performance “He wanna be a good tennis player.” In the same year, he was selected as a 10th-term KUMA Foundation scholar.
His recent practice begins with his own ongoing attempt to “become a professional tennis player,” combining singing, moving image, physical movement, and spoken word in performance.
By affirming the very act of “trying to become someone,” he continues to explore and expand the possibilities of pop music.
