Self Pleasure

Born in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1994.

He began playing musical instruments and composing at an early age, and later studied music theory, composition, arrangement, and DAW-based music production at Shobi University’s Department of Music Expression.

While at university, he became involved in a variety of bands and music projects. He currently serves as the frontman of Hoppy Highball, writing, composing, and arranging all of the band’s material as well as performing as guitarist and vocalist. The band performs extensively throughout Japan.

In 2020, he formed the electro-pop unit Anisonin, followed by the female-fronted band Mother Land in 2022. As a core member of these projects, he is involved in composition and arrangement as well as performing on guitar, mandolin, synthesizer, bass, percussion, and other instruments.

Since graduating from university, he has continued his band activities while composing scores and theme songs for numerous stage productions and films. Under the name “Hybo,” he also writes music for voice actors and idols and works as an arranger.

Self Pleasure was launched in 2024 as a project for electronic and ambient music that falls outside the scope of his band and other musical activities.

In the same year, he released the album KIMYOU HOUSE, featuring house and minimal techno influenced by artists and composers including Takkyu Ishino, Aphex Twin, and Philip Glass. Several singles followed.

In 2026, Self Pleasure releases two albums simultaneously, self portrait a and self portrait b, further exploring electronica, house, noise music, ambient music, and related forms of electronic music.
